Teyla's Kindergarten Graduation and Open House

June 17th was our last official day of school. Liberty, Teyla and Landon all worked hard this year and all have grown so much from the beginning of the year. I can't believe Liberty is going to be in 3rd grade next year, and honestly my baby girl graduated from Kindergarten and where I know she did, since I planned the program and ceremony, I'm still in denial. How did she grow up so fast. Landon will be in Pre - K next year, although I think he is smart enough to be a Kindergartner.

Teyla did Graduate and the video that follows is her Graduation.

After the Graduation ceremony we had an open house so all the kids could show off all the work they have done through out the year. The Mommy and Me school joined us in the open house so we were privileged in being able to  see all of Dimera's work from the year too.

School may be out, but that doesn't mean I get to rest. I will be getting next years curriculum soon and will start planning out the year. I can't believe I will have a 3rd grader, and 1st grader and a Pre K'er. It will be a  busy but wonderful year I am sure. Look for little updates here on what we are doing this summer and of course how the planning of the new year is going.

School is out

This last week was the last week of the 2010 - 2011 school year. The kids all worked very hard and all did extremely well. Teyla and Landon passed, I have yet to do Libby's grade card but am 99% sure she's got all A's. I know for a fact that she has passed into the 3rd grade. No matter how bad I want her not to be 8 she is going to be there in about a month.

Teyla will Graduate from Kindergarten this Friday at 7 and then we will have an open house following that. The open house will be for the Tender Loving Learning Mommy and kids school and the Mommy and Me school. We will have refreshments afterward so if your interested in coming let me know and I can give you more details.

I am going to continue to blog over what we do this summer as much as possible. This week the girls are doing VBS at The First Christian church. It is Pandamania and there first day seem to be a hit, they can't wait to go back tomorrow.

The kids are all enrolled in the Library reading program. I read to the little ones and Liberty reads on her own. I do sometimes read with her, but here lately she has been quite the little reader and reading on her own.?They have all reached their pool party. The two little ones have also received their second treasure box  prize box. I think tonight Liberty will reach her second treasure box prize. The little ones reach the goals with less hours of reading than Liberty does, but she reads through out the day so she isn't to far behind it them.

I am actually really proud of her. I have not had her officially tested, but I did do a test online that helps you figure out if your child could be dyslexic and it came back on the high scale of yes she is. She has really come along way with her reading and I know it isn't always fun to her because it is sometimes really hard for her to figure out some words, but if she takes her time she does eventually get whatever the word is she is having a problem with.  Just an example she sees has as ash a lot, and on as no. These are just two that I can think of myself. When I sit and read with her and she says a word and it's wrong if you look at that word whatever word she says if you rearrange the letters they fit into the word she says. I know it can't be easy, but her love for reading has grown and she may not read as fast as most, but she has come along way from where she was a year ago.

Check back next week to see videos and pics of Teyla's Graduation and from the open house.

Fashion and Flag day

We are on our last stretch of school. This year has gone extremely fast to me, it seems like just last week we  were starting this journey. This last week we have been focusing on finishing up on Heritage studies, English and Math. All the other subjects we have finished in the last month or so.

In English Liberty did a research paper over Penguins. She had to go to the library check out books penguins, read them and take notes. She then turned the notes into a first draft, where she didn't worry about spelling or grammar. Later she went back revised her paper correcting the spelling and any other mistake she had.She then wrote her final draft, where she made a cover page. I think she did a really good job. I honestly don't remember doing anything like that when I was 7.

In math we are playing catch up, we will not finish with Math U See this year, since we started it in January, but she has really been working hard and I am glad we decided to change. I went back to look at Saxon and what we would be studying and she wouldn't have done half the stuff we have done since January with Math U See.

In Heritage studies we some how fell behind, so we have been playing catch up. This last week and this week Liberty has been studying fashion in the old days. She has learned that how you dressed showed how rich or how poor you were. It also also gave clues as to what kind of profession they were. Liberty made a bonnet like the children would have worn in the colonial times.
Since today is Flag day we studied about the American flag, we talked about the different flags that came before the one we have today. We talked about what the Pledge of Allegiance means and we of course recited it. The kids made their own flags.

We are all ready for school to be over with, but we will finish the week off strong and plan to have a little celebration on Friday, so continue to  check back to see how we finish up the year.

Landon's Learning

Landon has all of a sudden become interested in school. I don't know if it's because of Tey's ABC  notebook (he wanted to do one too) or he is just ready to learn. This Friday we are going to see Thomas the Train at Baldwin City so I decided I would do an easy Transportation Notebook with him that focused on Trains. So every day this week while Teyla and Liberty have been doing their school work Landon has been doing his too.

In his notebook he worked on number recognitions, writing his letters, counting, and shape recognition. He also did some finger painting and learned some  train vocabulary

Tomorrow we should be finishing it up, but I felt like I wanted to share about how well he is doing and give him his little moment to shine. I am so proud of him and can't wait until next year when he will be doing Pre-K.

Wednesday, June 1, 2011

This week is a very busy week. Monday we had off for Memorial day and even though the weather was not co operating we spent the afternoon out at the Y water park. The water was cold and the wind made it even colder, but the kids had fun. I guess that's all that really counts.

Tuesday we had school nothing to exciting a lot of paper work. Teyla worked on the letter J in her ABC notebook. Liberty started the process of writing a research paper. She will be writing her paper over a favorite animal. I honestly can't remember what animal she picked, but right now we are working on learning how to write her paper. We will be going to the Library at the beginning of next week and she will pick out books about her animal so she can start actually writing her paper.  In Heritage studies we are finding out what happened after the Boston Tea Party. Landon is working on writing his letters. He is actually getting really good at writing. He also is working on his numbers by sight and doing a lot of dot to dots. He doesn't always want to do school, but when he does, it blows me away how far he has come from the beginning of the year.

Tuesday night the girls had blocking for their recital, below will be a sneak peak of their recital, now remember this is just blocking so they were getting use to the stage.
This is Teyla's tap dance, when she is in complete costume she has an elephant hat. It's really adorable

Libby's Ballet song is called spaghetti O's funny name for such a pretty dance. I can't believe how grown up she seems, she's not a baby anymore.

Wednesday was a pretty normal school day nothing exciting happened, we finished up and then headed out to the Y water park. It was cloudy all day, but when we pulled up into the Y parking lot the sun started shining through. The kids had a great time swimming.

Tomorrow is a short school day and then dress rehearsal.
