Wow where did the summer go? It went by in a whirl wind. We have done a lot of swimming and a lot of trips to the zoo this summer. The kids received all their prizes from the zoo's kids club. This year they received a water bottle, a string backpack and their t-shirt, they were some really great prizes for just having fun. We also welcomed baby Johnnie into the world. He came a little earlier than we expected, and he is in the NICU right now but he seems to be doing really well and hasn't had an complications. It made the last month of our summer vacation very exciting and busier than we had expected.
My kids still have a couple more weeks before school starts but the public schools start back next week. I have to get lesson plans done and the school room organized, so summer break is basically over for me too. This year we are going to be a little more structured. Teaching two full time classes is going to be tricky.I have it all scheduled out so that when Libby is doing a subject that I need to focus on with her Teyla is doing something that she can do on her own, and vice versa with Teyla. I also have it where Libby will be helping out some with some of Teyla's subjects. Landon will be doing Pre-K. He is very excited about starting school. He in fact was upset that when the girls curriculum came and he didn't have any school books. I went out to the Teacher store and to Wal -Mart and fixed that problem and he was very pleased. I'm sure all the plans that I have written down will change and we will have to adjust our schedule accordingly but at least I have a base line of what I want to happen and am not going blind into this year. It's going to be a challenge but one I'm up to taking.
I am going with a complete curriculum package of Bob Jones for both Libby and Teyla. I'm hoping the math will be good. We have struggled in finding a good math curriculum. I have enjoyed Bob Jones, Reading, Heritage Studies, and English, so I hoping that the math won't let me down. Right now I'm in the planning stages I have just finished with Teyla's curriculum and now need to move on to Liberty's.
I really can't believe Teyla is in first grade this year it doesn't seem quite possible. She is ready for school to start though, and is rearing to learn. I was really hesitant last year as if I should let her graduate Kindergarten and to be honest I think it all came down to me not being ready for her to be in first grade, not that she couldn't handle the work. I did see if she met all of the states standards for graduating Kindergarten and she exceeded them so who was I to keep her back from learning.
Liberty in 3rd grade wow, it's really freaking me out. Not because I don't think she is ready for 3rd grade, but mostly I think it's because 3rd grade is the first real memories of school that I have. Sure I remember things from 2nd , 1st, and Kindergarten, but they aren't as vivid as the ones from 3rd grade. I still remember my teacher, Ms. Mullin, she was a nice teacher a good teacher. She constantly had to separate my best friend Carla and I for talking in class when we weren't suppose too. I also remember that boys started being more prevalent in the 3rd grade. Not so much that I was interested in them, but they seemed to be interested in us girls. I don't remember much about what we learned and that's where I hope I can make a difference with Liberty. I hope that she will have memories of her friends, but I also hope that the adventures of her learning will be vivid memories too.
My baby is starting pre k I could be upset, but I'm kinda excited. He is so smart and I'm interested in watching him learn and grow this year. He seems really excited too. It's always nice when they want to learn.
This year is going to be an interesting year. A learning experience for us all. I hope you will join us in this years adventures. I'm sure they will be some mishaps a long the way, but it's all about the experience that counts.
I don't love the math but I don't hate it either. The overhead thing annoys me since I don't have one and I think I'm going to have to construct children out of play-doh for the group activities but it's still better than Saxon.
ReplyDeleteI hope you guys have a great year. Try not to go too insane with the planning.
I remember 3rd grade. TWO new girls arrived midyear and sat just behind me. Marylyn and Carolyn are still my friends 58 years later. It was also the year we started the 4 year Jayhawk Reading Program from KU.
