First week of school

Our first week of school has come to an end.

We have a tradition of back to school pancakes, pictures, and silly string, so that is how we began our day. I fixed the kids pancakes that say back to school, and we also had bacon. After breakfast was through they all got dressed in their new clothes and then  we took our traditional back to school pics  we then broke out the silly string. The idea of the silly string is that the kids get all their sillies out, when their can is empty they say good bye to all their summer sillies.

This year we had a little visitor for our first day of class. Ms. Paytlyn will be joining us a couple of days a week in the morning and her first day just happened to be our first day of class, I think she got the brunt of the silly string, but she seemed to have fun with it too.

Having said good bye to our summer sillies it was time to start our first day of school, so we headed down to the school room. We started by saying The Pledge of Allegiance and then we talked about our class room rules. The kids got to look through all of their new books and then we settled down to do some work.  Each of the kids will write in a journal each morning. Libby will write short stories, Teyla will finish a sentence and Landon will fill in the blank. The kids also get to draw a picture to go along with their writing.  In English, and math both girls are reviewing from what they learned last year. In reading Libby is doing a spectrum reading book and then we are reading chapter books together. After each chapter I will test her on what she knows about each chapter. Teyla is doing Bob Jones reading/phonics. We didn't start Heritage studies they will start that next week.

Landon did a unit All About me. He made a book that talked about his favorite color, favorite books, favorite movies, and favorite food. He made a family collage by picking out family pictures and then cutting them out and pasting them on construction paper. He also worked on his numbers and letters.

                                              checking out their school supplies

working hard on his all about me book, that is a cheeseburger his favorite food

All three kids are doing work on the computer, they do click n read, and click n spell and then Liberty does her spelling on the computer. Each girl had a spelling test at the end of the week, and I am very proud to say they each got 100% on their test.  Liberty will also be doing a computer class but she won't start that until next week.

Liberty started her Modern dance class Thursday, she has taken ballet and tap since she was 3 but this was the first time she took modern. She really really really liked it, and loved that she didn't have to wear any shoes.  Ballet and tap will begin Monday of next week.

We had a great week for it being our first week, we had a few bumps here and there but we made it through and the kids seemed to enjoy their first week back to school.
