May 16 & 17th

So Monday we kicked off the week on a slow start, Liberty did her spelling, she worked on her book report, and began reading about Annie Sullivan in reading. We started a new chapter in Heritage Studies all about taxes. Liberty learned that after King George III won the French and Indian war he needed some way to pay for the war so he decided that making the colonist pay a tax on paper would be a good idea. To demonstrate this I put a tax on her work that she did for the day. Every time she did a sheet of work in school she had to pay me a coin and I would put a stamp on it indicating she payed the tax. At the end of the day she had no money left and thought that  King George III tax was not a very nice idea.

Teyla and Landon had the day off, I forgot to prepare for their work and since we have dance class I really didn't have time to get them ready so they ended up doing their click and read and then did some playing on jump start.

Tuesday Liberty started off strong. In spelling she is working on her cursive writing so she is really getting pretty good at writing in cursive. She doesn't enjoy doing it all the time because it takes her longer than just printing but I'm very proud of her progress. In English she finished correcting her first draft and will be finishing her final draft on Thursday. In math she is working on rounding to the nearest 100's and adding and subtracting with triple numbers. Heritage Studies we continued learning about King George's taxes. Liberty learned that the colonist agreed with her and did not like the taxes on the paper and that they showed their dislike in many ways. King George III saw that the colonist didn't like the taxes on the paper so he passed a law that stopped the tax on the paper,  but then started taxing,  glass, lead, and cloth. This tax did not go over well with the colonist either and they started boycotting the stores that sold the items with taxes. They even went so far as to learn how to make their own cloth. Liberty didn't make her own cloth, but she did do some weaving and made her own pot holder.

After finishing her weaving we had lunch and then all three of the kids went on a field trip with Mommy and Me's school down to the Nature trail here are a couple of pictures Liberty took on that trip.

Teyla worked hard today too. She's been working on her ABC notebook and is up to letter F. She had a lot of fun with her art project where she finger painted over a taped letter F. After the paint was dry she pulled the tape off to make her letter F art.

She also practiced on writing her letter F's. We read a letter F poem and then she colored four funny fat fish. She made her own foot book by tracing her foot. She is also working on her work book where she works on reading, math and for science she will begin an ocean lapbook on Thursday.

Landon is working on his preschool skills by working in a work book that helps with his writing skills, math and reading skills. He is also doing click and read and he joins in on all the science projects that we do as a group. Landon knows how to spell his name so this week he is doing the same letter art that Teyla did only he will be doing one letter in his name a day. On Tuesday he did his letter L.

Wednesday we are going on a field trip to the Wonderscope Museum in Overland Park so look for pictures of that trip coming up soon
